2016 Olympic Games

Education First

The Language Youth Leadership Forum was an intensive seven-day program designed to bring together twenty students from all over the world.

They all went to Rio during the 2016 Olympic Games to learn about leadership and cultural exchange. My goal was to capture how this experience fundamentally changed their perspectives, translating the sheer excitement of their journey into a story of personal growth. I accompanied the group through a whirlwind of different moments, from quiet, thoughtful workshops to the high energy of the Olympic events and late-night celebrations, capturing the sense of wonder that comes when everything you’re seeing is new.The real challenge was finding a single, cohesive thread that could tie all these different activities together into one story. Rather than seeing the workshops and the city tours as separate pieces, I focused on the synergy of the group, documenting how twenty different nationalities slowly became one community.

By building a genuine connection with the students, I was able to film the evolution of their friendships, making sure the final piece felt like a continuous journey of shared discovery. Because of the crowds and the tight security of the Rio Olympics, I had to work with a very light footprint, often navigating the city on my own to find the right shot. This required staying alert to the energy of the city while keeping the focus on the students' individual emotions. The final result is a vibrant reflection of that week, a film that captures the impact of the program and the honest, raw beauty of a global community forming in real-time.
